Installing OpenLinux Getting Started Guide 53 To create a new user account: 1. Delete the example text in the Real Name field and enter the person’s complete name. 2. Delete the example text in the Login name field (if necessary) and enter a login name. The login name is often based on something like first initial and last name, or first name an last initial. The login name should not be longer than eight characters. 3. Enter a password for this new user account in the Password field. 4. Repeat the same password in the Confirm Spelling field. 5. Press the Tab key to leave the Confirm Spelling field. When you have the same password entered in both fields, the Add User button becomes active. 6. If you wish to change the shell (command line interface) used for this user, select tcsh or zsh. The default shell for Linux systems is bash. 7. Choose Add User. The user is listed in the bottom half of the screen. 8. Repeat these steps to add additional regular user accounts as neces- sary. You can always change the password of a user with the passwd command after the installation is completed. 9. When all needed user accounts have been created, choose Next to continue. Next is not active until one regular user account has been created in this screen. Setting Networking Information In the next screen you define the networking information for your OpenLinux system. You have three options for your networking: If you don’t plan to connect to a local network using an Ethernet or simi- lar networking card, choose the first option on this screen (No ethernet).
